Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to a new year at J. H. Hull Middle School. I am really looking forward to this year of science and hope you are also. In order to make this a successful year, we need to work together as teacher, students, and parents. It is important that you come to class prepared, on time, and ready to work every day because we will be working on a standards enriched curriculum and projects.
· Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
· Respect yourself and others.
· ALWAYS follow the directions of the teacher.
· Verbal Warning
· Call home
· Referral to the office
Homework may be assigned Monday through Friday. Science homework is to be completed before class begins the following day. Homework assignments will consist of, but are not limited to, textbook work, workbooks, worksheets, written assignments, and projects.
Late work will receive half credit when turned in. Work is considered make-up if the student was absent on the date of issue. Make-up work due to an absence may be turned in without penalty up to 2 school days after the student’s return to school. It is the students’ responsibility to get all make-up work from the teacher, homework board, the Hull website, or from a friend.
The following materials are highly recommended
· spiral bound notebooks
· red pen
· glue stick
· blunt tip scissors
· colored pencils/markers
Students earn grades on a point system using the following scale:
· A = 90 – 100%
· B = 80 – 89%
· C = 70 – 79%
· D = 60 – 69%
· F = 59% and below
The following are factors in determining effort grades
· Missing assignments
· Late assignments
· Participation in class
Classroom behavior and tardies are considered when figuring a student’s citizenship grade. Every quarter begins a clean tardy record; it is not cumulative.
ANY form of cheating will result in a zero on the assignment/test and further consequences if necessary. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, the following: plagiarism, copying someone else’s work or allowing someone to copy your work.
Thank you for taking the time to review the information contained in this letter. If you have any questions at any time throughout the school year, please feel free to send me an email or leave a message on my phone. I will try to get back to you within 24 hours.
