Information for "Topographical Model Project"
Three Dimensional Topographical
Model Project
The students, working in teams of six, will choose a distinct geographic feature, such as a specific mountain, volcano, island, canyon or a specific type of geologic formation such as a mid ocean ridge, subduction zone, physical structure of the Earth, or type of fault zone. The teams will research their feature including, but not limited to, its name, physical description, physical structure, geographic location, how it was formed, its geologic age, photos and/or drawings of the feature and most importantly a 2D topographical map. This information will be presented in a written report, a verbal presentation with each member of the team making a short contribution and the construction of a three dimensional topographical model. In the presentation of a generic geologic feature the team must also submit a 2 dimensional drawing of the feature.
The project as a whole will include:
Team member’s names
Name of the geographic feature
Type of feature
Location of feature
How this feature is formed
Age of the Feature
Sources of the information
Photographs and/or drawings of the feature
2 Dimensional Topographical Map
Written Report which includes the above information
Note cards to be used during the verbal presentations
3-Dimensional Topographical Model of the feature
The team will all receive the same grade on the project so it is incumbent upon each member to carry their own weight and to make sure that their team mates are doing the same. Collaboration and team work are essential for everyone to get a high score. No one person should have to do more than their fair share.
Due Dates for each component of the project and presentation of the Full Final Project will be determined.
