Classes: 7th. Grade Social Studies
Years Teaching: I am in my 16th year of teaching. My first 3 years were with L.A. Unified in San Pedro, then I took 10 years off to stay home with my children. I am now in my 13th year with Torrance Unified. I've T.A.'ed in Kindergarten, taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades, and taught writing at the Middle School level for Palos Verdes School District.This is my 4th year of teaching 7th Grade World History at Hull.
Education: My A.B. is from Occidental College. I have a double major in History (emphasis Middle East and Africa) and Political Science (emphasis Political Theory). I briefly attended USC Law School until I realized I couldn't think like a lawyer. I earned a teaching degree in Multiple Subject instead, and have since added 2 Single Subject Credentials in Social Studies and English.
Hobbies: Spending time with my family (husband Ken Gaugh, children Natalie and Liam), my cats and Dachsie, movies, books, and travel. Our daughter will be graduating this fall from Colgate University in upstate New York, with a degree in English and a Minor in Film. Our son is attending Georgetown University in Washington D.C. with a Major in Medieval Studies.
Class Academic Goals: My goals for your students are to make them think more clearly, analyze more accurately, and judge more carefully. I also want them to be aware of their place in the world community by emphasizing the cause and effect elements of historical events, and illustrating how all history is interconnected with the present.
